What is a Mattress Coil Gauge?
Understanding Mattress Coil Gauge
Mattress coil gauge refers to the thickness of the wire used to create the coils. A lower gauge number indicates a thicker and stronger wire, resulting in firmer support, while a higher gauge number means a thinner wire that provides more give and bounce. Most mattress coils range between 12 and 15 gauge.
Although coil gauge is a helpful indicator of coil quality and durability, other factors—such as the quality of the top-layer foams—are equally important. These materials typically wear out faster than the coils themselves, significantly impacting the mattress’s overall comfort and lifespan.
