What does it mean when a mattress warranty says it is non-prorated or prorated?

In a non-prorated warranty period, the manufacturer covers the full repair or replacement cost for a covered defect (excluding any fees listed). In a prorated period, you may pay a portion of the replacement cost based on how long you have owned the mattress. Many warranties combine both: a non-prorated period followed by a prorated one.
