Antimicrobial treatments work by creating an environment on the fabric surface that is less favorable for microbial growth for example, by disrupting cell walls or interfering with microbial metabolism. They do not kill everything on contact, but they can reduce the rate at which certain microbes multiply on the treated textile compared to untreated fabric.
